วันออกพรรษา

วันออกพรรษา หรือ วันปวารณาออกพรรษา เป็นวันสำคัญทางพุทธศาสนาวันหนึ่งในประเทศไทย เนื่องจากเป็นวันสิ้นสุดระยะเวลาจำพรรษา 3 เดือนของพระสงฆ์เถรวาท โดยเป็นวันที่พระสงฆ์จะทำสังฆกรรมปวารณาออกพรรษาในวันนี้ วันออกพรรษาตามปกติ (ออกปุริมพรรษา¹) จะตรงกับวันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือน 11 (ประมาณเดือนตุลาคม) หลังวันเข้าพรรษา 3 เดือน ตามปฏิทินจันทรคติไทย

การออกพรรษานั้น ถือเป็นข้อปฏิบัติตามพระวินัยสำหรับพระสงฆ์โดยเฉพาะ เรียกว่า "ปวารณา" จัดเป็นญัตติกรรมวาจาสังฆกรรมประเภทหนึ่ง ที่ถูกกำหนดโดยพระวินัยบัญญัติให้โอกาสแก่พระสงฆ์ที่จำพรรษาอยู่ร่วมกันตลอดไตรมาสสามารถว่ากล่าวตักเตือนและชี้ข้อบกพร่องแก่กันและกันได้โดยเสมอภาค ด้วยจิตที่ปรารถนาดีซึ่งกันและกัน เพื่อสามารถให้พระสงฆ์ที่ถูกตักเตือนมีโอกาสรับรู้ข้อบกพร่องของตนและสามารถนำข้อบกพร่องไปแก้ไขปรับปรุงตัวให้ดียิ่งขึ้น

เมื่อถึงวันออกพรรษา พุทธศาสนิกชนถือเป็นโอกาสอันดีที่จะเข้าวัดเพื่อบำเพ็ญกุศลแก่พระสงฆ์ที่ตั้งใจจำพรรษาและตั้งใจปฏิบัติธรรมมาตลอดจนครบไตรมาสพรรษากาลในวันนี้ และวันถัดจากวันออกพรรษา 1 วัน (แรม 1 ค่ำ เดือน 11) พุทธศาสนิกชนในประเทศไทยยังนิยมไปทำบุญตักบาตรครั้งใหญ่ เรียกว่า ตักบาตรเทโว หรือ ตักบาตรเทโวโรหณะ เพื่อรำลึกถึงเหตุการณ์สำคัญในพุทธประวัติที่กล่าวว่า ในวันถัดวันออกพรรษาหนึ่งวัน พระพุทธเจ้าได้เสด็จลงจากเทวโลกกลับจากการโปรดพระพุทธมารดาบนสวรรค์ชั้นดาวดึงส์ในพรรษาที่ 7 เพื่อลงมายังเมืองสังกัสสนครพร้อมกับทรงแสดงโลกวิวรณปาฏิหาริย์เปิดโลกทั้งสามด้วย
